About English Cinema Lausanne

Most cinema-listings sites tell you what's playing. What they don't tell you is what's playing in English. For English speakers in Lausanne who would rather watch a film in its original English than dubbed, finding an undubbed screening is a weekly chore. You check the cinema's website. You squint at the session codes. You Google what "OmU" means again. Sometimes you show up and the film is dubbed anyway.

English Cinema Lausanne was built to solve exactly that. We track which films are screening in their original English audio, at which cinemas in Lausanne, this week. The answer is one page. No sign-up required, no algorithm deciding what you should watch, no sponsored placements. Just the listings.

The project is independent and ad-free. It exists because a handful of people thought it should exist, and they built it themselves. If it's useful to you, the best thing you can do is tell one other person about it.

What "English-language" means here. The criterion is the spoken audio, not the subtitles. A film can originate anywhere: the US, the UK, Ireland, Australia, India. As long as the dialogue is in English, it belongs here. A French film shown with English subtitles is not included. An American film shown without dubbing is. When a cinema lists a version as "OV", "VOSE", or "OmU" without specifying the original language, we include it and flag the uncertainty in the listing.

How screenings are detected. Each cinema's public schedule is checked roughly every 20 hours. For each session we cross-reference version markers in the programme data (codes like "VO", "VOSE", "OmU", "OV" and equivalent local variants) against what's known about the film's original language. The detection is deliberately conservative: when in doubt, we include rather than omit, and we always show the source so you can double-check before buying a ticket.

What's automatic and what's editorial. Listings and showtimes are pulled and processed automatically. Editor's picks, the weekly Top 10, and the curated thematic lists are chosen by people. The newsletter is written by hand. Automation for coverage, judgment for curation.

English Cinema Lausanne is a small independent project with no advertising, no investors, and no corporate backing. The most useful thing you can do if you find it helpful is forward the newsletter to one person who would actually use it.
